A few months ago I stumbled across the genius that is Brandi Carlile. Upon first listen, I instantly felt a strong connection with her music. Her lyrics are deep and raw, along with her voice. This one has been on repeat lately.
I’m thinking of embarking upon A love affair with the sky The constellations won’t ever leave me The clouds will never make me cry The heavens glow each morning With brand new artwork, just for me The pink and orange vista Gleams beyond the willow tree At night, before the darkness comes The sky will blaze once more This time, with purple hazy streaks The setting sun tries to settle the score And just when the pitch black sparks A forlorn feeling in my chest The stars begin to twinkle And they set my heart to rest
When you’re used to that feeling you’ve felt for so long, Seems kinda pointless tryin’a put it in a song. Cause what can I tell you that hasn’t been said? I’ll try to describe it this way instead. You’re that cold mornin air kissing my cheeks. You’re in dew on the grass blades so thick that it speaks. Whispering softly into my ear. Your sweet little nothings I’ve been longing to hear. Your sweet little nothings are something to me. They make me feel precious, and happy, and free. They ring in my ears like a warm melody. Your sweet little nothings are something to me. I’m the big bright moon waning in the pitch black night sky. Tryin’ to stay on the straight and narrow, as the crow flies. But late in the evening when I rest my head, The ghost of you always slips inside my bed. And I hear Your sweet little nothings are something to me. They make me feel precious, and happy, and free. They ring in my ears like a warm melody. Your sweet little nothings are something ...
The cool morning breeze kissing my cheeks. Dew on the grass blades so thick that it speaks. Whispering sweet nothings into my ear. All those little things I’ve been longing to hear.
